The 3rd Street Project

Project Summary

The Client

The Nelsons are empty nesters who treasure their roles as parents and grandparents. They wanted a modern, functional kitchen that felt open and organized while remaining family-friendly and warm. Their vision centered on creating a place where their loved ones could gather and spend quality time together.

The Challenge

The Nelsons’ original kitchen felt dark and outdated. Storage was limited, the cabinetry no longer functioned for their needs, and the layout lacked the gathering space they wanted for their children and grandchildren.

The Solution

Sterling Woodworks reimagined the layout with custom cabinetry, restored flooring, and a multifunctional island. Light neutral selections brightened the space, while the decorative hood and cabinetry details tied everything together. Personalized accessories throughout, including organizational inserts and accessibility features, created a kitchen that serves every generation.

Additional Challenges

  1. Challenge: The Nelsons wanted an island that could serve as the centerpiece of family gatherings.
  2. Challenge: Grandchildren needed easy access to snacks and family-friendly storage.
  3. Challenge: The family wanted a design that was both modern and timeless.

SWW Solutions

  1. Solution: A fruitwood-stained island with ample seating, deep storage, and a hidden pop-up outlet turned the space into a hub for both daily life and special occasions.
  2. Solution: Pull-out produce drawers, deep drawers, and clever organizational features made the kitchen practical for both adults and little ones.
  3. Solution: Neutral selections with pops of personality—white uppers, green lowers, and warm wood tones—ensured the space feels fresh yet inviting for years to come.

Bright, Modern & Made for Family

“This is the kitchen we always dreamed of - bright, modern, and made for family. Our grandkids think the island is magic and we love knowing every detail was carefully thought out with our needs in mind. From start to finish Sterling Woodworks was very accommodating, organized, and helpful in the design.“
