The 3rd Street Project

Project Summary

The Client

Jessica and her husband Patrick dreamed of creating a space where teenagers, family, and friends could gather outside of their main home. Their vision: a pool house that doubles as an entertainment space, complete with a full kitchen, bath, and thoughtful cabinetry solutions to support everything from casual snacks to large family meals. They wanted minimal upper cabinets, a large island, and design continuity between the spaces.

The Challenge

The Reavers had a wide open, unfinished structure with incredible potential but no clear direction for how to make it functional, beautiful, and cohesive. With plumbing and structural elements already in place, they needed expert cabinetry design that could work with existing constraints while maximizing storage, flow, and style.

The Solution

Sterling Woodworks designed a full kitchen and coordinating bath that embraced the open concept while anchoring the space with a statement-making island. The island became the heart of the design—offering storage, built-in appliances, and gathering space for teenagers and adults alike. Minimal upper cabinetry was balanced with expansive lower cabinetry and thoughtful accessories, keeping the look clean and open while ensuring the kitchen remained highly functional.

Additional Challenges

  1. Challenge: The vaulted ceilings and open floor plan risked making the space feel cold and unfinished.
  2. Challenge: The clients wanted minimal upper cabinets without sacrificing storage.
  3. Challenge: The barndominium needed to serve multiple generations and uses, from teenagers hanging out to family entertaining.

SWW Solutions

  1. Solution: Custom cabinetry and a large island provided structure, warmth, and intentional design that grounded the soaring ceilings and expansive layout.
  2. Solution: Smart storage accessories—such as deep drawers, pull-outs, and island cabinetry—ensured functionality without cluttering the walls with overhead cabinetry.
  3. Solution: The cabinetry was designed with flexibility in mind incorporating features like a double oven, ice machine, beverage storage, and ample counter space. These thoughtful selections make it practical for simple pizza nights or large holiday gatherings.

Our Home Away From Home

“What started as a place to keep the kids busy by the pool quickly became a space our whole family fell in love with. Sterling Woodworks helped us turn a simple idea into a true gathering spot—practical for everyday use, but special enough to feel like the heart of our home away from home.“
