The 3rd Street Project

Project Summary

The Client

Across the way from her husband’s family farm, this beloved farmhouse—once part of the original Hey Brother Dairy Farm—stands as a tribute to heritage and home. Patti was inspired by sage-green tones, warm neutrals, and natural finishes. She wanted to breathe new life into both the kitchen and bathroom while honoring the craftsmanship and charm that had always made the house special. Together, we brought her vision to life—balancing history and renewal through thoughtful design, handcrafted cabinetry, and timeless detail.

The Challenge

The farmhouse kitchen and bathroom both needed a fresh identity without losing their historic charm. The client loved the original layout and flow but needed cabinetry that offered better storage, improved organization, and elevated design.

The Solution

Sterling Woodworks reimagined both spaces to bring unity and craftsmanship throughout the home. In the kitchen, we introduced Acacia Haze painted base cabinetry with white glass-door uppers extending to the ceiling, creating light, balance, and a sense of timelessness. A custom wood hood, matched to the repurposed antique seed bin island and vintage hutch, tied the new design to the home’s story. Since the soffit couldn’t be removed, faux cabinets were added above the refrigerator for a built-in look.

In the bathroom, a Hale Navy–inspired vanity grounded the space with depth and contrast, while a light quartz countertop and antique gold fixtures carried the warmth and elegance of the kitchen through the rest of the home. The design preserved the existing built-in medicine cabinet, blending old and new in perfect proportion.

Additional Challenges

  1. Challenge: The kitchen’s lower cabinets offered little usable storage.
  2. Challenge: A structural beam divided the kitchen awkwardly.
  3. Challenge: The client wanted to display her collection of antiques and serve ware.
  4. Challenge: The bathroom lacked visual cohesion with the new kitchen design.

SWW Solutions

  1. Solution: Replaced base cabinets with deep drawer storage for easier organization and daily use.
  2. Solution: Added a built-in wine rack beside the beam, stained to match the hood and island, making the feature feel intentional.
  3. Solution: Designed glass-front uppers to the ceiling for both beauty and display space.
  4. Solution: Introduced a navy vanity, framed mirror, and Cala Blue tile backsplash to reflect the same handcrafted charm, tying the two spaces together through color, material, and finish.

Every Detail Feels Intentional & Personal

“Sterling Woodworks understood exactly what I meant when I said I wanted our home to feel like home. They honored the history that’s always been here while giving us the beauty and function we’d been dreaming of. Every detail feels intentional and personal—and those deep drawers? The best decision we ever made.“
